Racing has become a very important part of my life. It takes a lot of dedication and a lot of focus but results in a real sense of accomplishment and puts me in great shape. Sharing this information helps keep my mind in the game and lets you read about my experiences :)

A busy Wednesday

So... with a little too much caffeine before I went to sleep I didn't actually get much sleep last night but was feeling pretty good about rolling out of bed at 4:45am to get to Masters Swim at 5:45. Technically I haven't even been a "swimmer" for a year yet but I have a tendency to let myself get frustrated. We had some longer sets to swim today and after an hour, I was beat. Staring from the slow lane 1 at the super swimmers in lane 5 trying to figure out once again what the heck they are doing so much differently than me? But as I was getting ready to leave, smiley Mary showed up for the next session and said something that she often reminds us....we're in the top 20th percentile of all people, just for showing up." That made me feel better as I was nearly sprinting through the cold to my car with icicles forming in my hair :)

I had a "moment" last night where I stopped to realize how poorly I have been eating and that the weight I lost last summer is most definitely back! I need to revamp my eating style and unfortunately for any blog readers that means you get to read about that too. :-P I need to cut out snacking, especially on sugars and carbs. Working from home does not make that easy! I'm trying to drink more water and tea in place of my No Carb/No Sugar Energy drinks. Also trying to reduce the size of my dinner and absolutely NO intake after 7pm. And only one Caribou mocha a week. For those of you who know me, you know I'm going to need therapy on that pretty soon. lol

This afternoon I also agreed to go for a run outside. I'm not one to venture out into the cold but feel like I need to try and put in a few outdoor miles over the winter. Running was my weakest element in triathlons last summer. All I can say is...brrr! Jim had the GPS so he'll have to let me know how far we actually ended up going. I am glad I got out for a few miles. I stayed warm until I stopped and let my body cool down, then I shivered all the way home :)

TNT starts up again in February. I'm excited to be a mentor and hang out with all my friends again from last year!

One mocha a week? Yeah...good luck with that. :-D

Nutrition's tricky and I still suck at it but have definitely come a long way.

Breakfast is usually Bob's Red Mill 10 grain hot cereal with a Breadsmith flaxseed & cranberry roll, raisins, some honey in the cereal to sweeten it, and a banana.

Lunch is usually nothing. I snack all day on fresh veggies (no dip) but that's what I'm hungry for - fresh dry veggies.

Dinner is typically whatever I feel like but usually winds up being some form of starch.

Protein shakes are great ways to fill up on the necessary vitamins and minerals too.

Nice run today. Let's do it again some time.
