Well it's been another week of up and way down.
Work has been going well. Had a lot of meetings last week. One day was even broken up with a mid-day swim with the EP Masters group. That was fun :)
I struggled to keep up with the workouts this last week and am starting the same way this week. Mentally I'm worn out and I think it's mostly because I'm not keeping up with EVERYTHING at the same time. And when I have time to work on SOMETHING, I do NOTHING. Ugh....
I have come to one conclusion though, I think I'm trying to keep track of too many things. I have officially decided to drop detailing my nutrition everyday. I'm not getting any benefits from tracking my food on a daily basis. Maybe it would help if I'd actually be eating well but I'm far from that. It's frustrating but at the same time I still can't seem to get myself to change. (for the Austin Powers fans....."I eat because I'm unhappy...and I'm unhappy because I eat"..lol) If it's adding stress...it's gone.
I was on my bike tonight and thought it might be worth noting that I paid close attention to my heart rate in different positions on the bike. If down in aero is the constant, add 10bpm for coming up to the hoods and add 10-15bpm for sitting all the way up. Also, for the last 7 minute set of 75% MHR I decided to get my heartrate up to 155 and then do everything I can to focus on nothing but riding smoothly. I put my eyes on the reflection of my feet on the fireplace doors and after 3 minutes of constant riding, my heart rate was down 5bpm. But as soon as I broke focus and looked at my watch (and the TV) it was instantly back up. So there is definitely something to say about the mental game of training/racing. Just not sure I have full grasp of it yet.
The IronCrew is also going to look at and consider a 10-day workout week as we discussed with Tony last weekend at the Gear West University. The idea is very intriguing and hopefully he can offer some help to us in feeling confident about our schedule for the rest of the summer.
