Racing has become a very important part of my life. It takes a lot of dedication and a lot of focus but results in a real sense of accomplishment and puts me in great shape. Sharing this information helps keep my mind in the game and lets you read about my experiences :)

Three broken nails, two dozen too many cookies and one very long run

Three broken finger nails.....the price I pay for one of my other hobbies. I finally got out to practice with a few friends before league play in two weeks. I joined a mixed bowling league with a few friends as something different and fun to do over the winter. But unfortunately that means the nails I desperately try to grow have to be broken down to nothing on my left thumb, middle and ring finger. The price I have to pay for being a girl, I was actually pretty bummed out about the whole thing but I was over it when I pulled out a 198 on my last game :) (Stamp....nerd alert!)
Two dozen too many cookies....comes from the State Fair. Damn that Sweet Martha for making such irresistable cookies! I ended up at the fair on Saturday and it was a perfect day (weather-wise) for being outside. I started out traditionally with my Australian Battered Potatoes and not long after gave into the pull of Sweet Martha's. At least 10 cookies later and one tall glass of milk, I was disgustingly full but thoroughly satisfied :)
One very long run....Sunday morning with Dana. We met up at Nokomis and were both surprised to be shivering that it was so cold out. The humidity was down and it took about a mile to really warm up. But once we got going it was perfect for running our long 16 miles. Every step passed 14 miles was the longest run I've ever done. I felt surprisingly well and love my new Nathan fuel belt. My knees were pretty tired for the last 3 miles and I even had a bit of a sour stomach which luckily didn't last too long. Going to have to investigate my nutrition options for the longer runs I guess. I had water and accelerade and a couple gel packs was all.
Wednesday I head off to Milwaukee for the Harley Davidson 105th anniversary. Not as a driver but as a passenger. I just can't clutch and don't plan on learning :) Should be a nice few days away from work and away from having to wake up early but I do still have to get in a few runs while I'm away. There is a long regional trail I guess just a few miles from our hotel but I'll have to investigate it's safety and how easy it is to get to when I get out there. I will need to get in at least a 6-7 mile run and a long 18 miler. Once again my longest run EVER and doing it alone is going to be a mental challenge. I also plan to bring some granola or an actual protein bar to chew on and see if that helps the sour stomach issues.
