Racing has become a very important part of my life. It takes a lot of dedication and a lot of focus but results in a real sense of accomplishment and puts me in great shape. Sharing this information helps keep my mind in the game and lets you read about my experiences :)

Taper week

Well I had a seriously hard three mile run tonight. My intentions were to do four but the buffalo wings and meat lover's pizza I had for dinner barely let me do 3! Ugh....but honestly it was just such a great night to be outside. I even took an extra long cool down walk just to stay outside. It was so nice although would have been better to not be doing it solo. Something about the sounds, sights and smells is so great when it's starting to turn to fall. Call it corny but I love the cool weather, bright colored trees and running through leaves on the path.
Twin Cities Marathon is on Sunday so I'll probably swim tomorrow, run another 3 miles on Thursday, swim Friday and then off on Saturday. I would run tomorrow too but not sure I'll fit it in. I have plans over lunch and then I'm going to the Ironman party for Kim and Rachel downtown for dinner. Being a first time marathoner this tapering is making me very nervous. I've been following the plan I chose pretty closely but it just doesn't feel like I've been doing enough. But after talking to a fellow runner and co-worker of mine today, I guess I should remember to be happy that I have done the long runs and am going into the weekend with no major pains or injuries.

As a "seasoned veteran" I can honestly say that if you're nervous and feel like you didn't do enough then you're ready! If you weren't nervous then I'd be concerned for you.

You'll do amazingly well. Above all, have a good time. You're not out to smash world records. No matter if you finish this in 2:30 or 8:30 it'll be your PR. So relax... enjoy... and have fun. I'll be there rooting you on Kris!
