Racing has become a very important part of my life. It takes a lot of dedication and a lot of focus but results in a real sense of accomplishment and puts me in great shape. Sharing this information helps keep my mind in the game and lets you read about my experiences :)

A new day and a new challenge

So after having what I'll just call a crappy evening yesterday for reasons not to be scripted....I managed to get my rear out of bed and to Master's swim this morning......barely.....

BUT I got to swim and for the first time in a very long time I had Lane 1 all to myself. It was a set of 100's:

3 warm up 100's
4-100 @ 2:10
4-100 @ 1:55
3-100 @ 2:20
3-100 @ 1:50
2-100 @ 2:30
2-100 @ 1:45

So I got through my first two warm up 100's and then Scott stopped to talk to me. Since I was all by myself, he decided to bring each of my fast sets down by 5 seconds. I was excited for that challenge but then about 10 seconds later he said...."no, you know what? You can handle Lane 2, scoot on over and fall in at the end of the group and see how it goes."

Holy crap!! I've been waiting for this challenge, bring it on :)

Now granted there were two other people in the lane that I got to draft behind so that definitely helped my speed. I have been leading Lane 1 for some time now and I guess it's logical that I go from the front of Lane 1 to the back of Lane 2. Although I admit I was nervous that I wouldn't be able to keep up and sort of even felt like I was intruding on their space. So here was the Lane 2 workout:

3 warm up 100's
4-100 @ 2:00
4-100 @ 1:45
3-100 @ 2:10
3-100 @ 1:40
2-100 @ 2:20
2-100 @ 1:35
3-150 @ 3:00

And guess what......I made every interval. Damn that felt so frickin' good! Granted that doesn't mean every Lane 2 workout I will be able to do. I'll probably switch back and forth for awhile before I commit to stick in Lane 2 but I will tell you this REALLY makes me know I have to keep getting up in the morning and dragging my butt to swim or I'll just lose all the ground (or should I say water) that I've gained. This was a somewhat moderate day but after yesterday I needed some type of personal accomplishment to make it feel like not every part of my life has to suck today :-P

So yada, yada work, yada yada more work.....yuck.

Tonight I met up with the rest of the Iron crew (Becca, Dana, Sean and myself) for a short 3 mile run around Nokomis and then dinner at Fat Lorenzo's to eat pizza and talk 2009 schedules, races, training, etc. I think we've settled on a plan we are all going to follow and have come to a general consensus on what races we will be doing, absolutely can't do and are "probably not but maybes" Pretty bummed about TNT Tahoe because that's one I pretty much think I can't do, due to fundraising and/or the personal financial commitment. But I really wish I could do it since the ride is actually smack on my birthday next year. How fun would that be? But sounds like we are all going to do the TNT half Iron team for the Pacific Crest Weekend Sports Festival.
~~I think I've mentioned this race before but side note for anyone that doesn't know....TNT MN has never done a half iron team before so this is pretty cool. Only problem is that it's a destination event so the fundraising is going to be higher $5k+. My hopes is that I can get in as a non-fundraising mentor so I can just do my letters and annual fundraising events without having to be stressed about hitting the minimums. ~~
I think that's about it for now. My stupid DVR box went on the fritz and ate my Monday and Tuesday night shows from this week so I'm seriously pissed! I exchanged the box today for a new one so hopefully that's the end of that issue. But that also means that thanks to the lame-o pres. debates, I have nothing to watch tonight.

Yawn! Off to read a few pages and doze off to sleep....

You ROCK Kris! Congratulations! Lane 2 is a good challenge isn't it? I'm so happy you kept up and owned those intervals. That's no easy task! You're an amazing athlete. Keep it up and you'll be lapping me on the track in no time!

It'd be fun to hang out with the gang again sometime for a run, bike, swim, spin, other...
