Racing has become a very important part of my life. It takes a lot of dedication and a lot of focus but results in a real sense of accomplishment and puts me in great shape. Sharing this information helps keep my mind in the game and lets you read about my experiences :)

One very long week...but there is hope for summer!

It's been a huge week for me on many levels. But as I sit here listening to my Bad Day music mix being all soppy and super happy at the same time.....I'll stop and call that my "vent" part of the blog and move on to training....

We had a glimpse of better weather this last weekend and so my hope that summer will soon arrive has been renewed. Unfortunately that will likely be crushed by snowfall on Monday but I digress.....
Last weekend the weather was beautiful and the IronCrew got out for our first bike ride on Sunday. We had a great handful of other friends join us and we had a fantastic day! Especially if you minus out my flat tire before we got started, Pete's flat about 2 1/2 hours in, Mark falling over standing still and me taking a spill in the sand. Gotta love outdoor biking hazards!!....lol All in all I was very happy that day.
This was a big week in terms of total training hours. Here's a quick recap starting with last weekend....
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Saturday: 1:40 run with TNT team, hill repeats followed by 1hr bike ride
Sunday: 3hr bike ride followed by 45 min easy run
Monday: Rest Day
Tuesday: Treadmill run 45min - intervals
Wednesday: 2650yd swim (skipped a 1hr bike this night)
Thursday: made up for the swim I missed on Monday by joining Tony for a noon swim with SCS. 2200 yards with vertical kick drills. Got to team spin early (7pm) to treadmill run intervals 45 min before a 45 min spin
Friday: 2700yd swim (3-25drill, 3-50free, 3-75dps, 3-100 at 1:35 repeat all that 3x. Somehow I managed to make all but one of the 100s at or below 1:35 so I was very happy with that.
Saturday (today): 1:45 run starting with a track workout with the TNT team
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
zzzzzzz....yes I have been excessively tired lately but I think my body is starting to adjust and I just need to put more priority on getting sleep....or WAY more coffee!

And I have lost just a couple pounds. Hoping for a few more. I have gotten into a good routine of just eating small portions constantly throughout the day. I feel like I'm constantly hungry so I can never be more than 30 minutes from at least a granola bar. This morning at our run it hit me that I don't bring any gels, bars, etc for during the training and considering now our weekend trainings are around 2hours, I need to start remembering to bring fuel for during the training as well as after. I've also been trying to keep my caffeine intake down and water intake up. For the most part I just have one coffee or sugar-free energy drink a day and it's usually in the earlier hours.

IT band has stayed tight in the left leg but it's been more of a nuissance than actual pain. Surprisingly the pain part is in the right knee. Only hurts when I am half way up or down from a squat. That's the only way I can think to explain it.

This week we switch over to a different training plan (booked called "Start to Finish Ironman Training" by Paul Huddle and Roch Frey). It's very similar to what we've been doing the past 12 weeks but it incorporates optional strength training and eases up a little on the required # of bike sessions per week.

I also got signed up for the Minneman triathlon. I wasn't going to do it this year since it didn't fit super well into the training schedule for that weekend and also I was potentially going to have some work-related activities that day. But I was convinced it would be ok for me, it's a good time to do speed-work and if I really love it that much...I SHOULD do it. I shouldn't have to skip everything for Ironman. So thanks to a few nameless factors...I'm in and more excited than ever to go back and race there this year. Those of you that have followed my blog know I've pretty much gotten over feeling like I have to race until there's nothing left. I enjoy racing not to win but to feel good. BUT in the case of Minneman, this is my PR race. Kind of my "test" race every year to see where I'm at. This is the only one that I really feel like I want to beat my time from last year. It's such a fun course and I'm emotionally attached to this one since 2 years ago, this was my very first triathlon ever...where I officially earned the title of Triathlete and that will always be very special to me.

Which takes me to another topic and I'll try to keep it short cuz this entry is getting long!

I'm at that point in the early training season where, every year, I start to get really hard on myself for my lack of speed. (Personally I love to blame my genetics.) I've never been fast and I beat myself up about it. It sucks to always be at the back of MY pack of training partners. I'm somewhere in the middle of things overall but in the group I training with, I'm overall the slow one and it's hard not to think negatively. We were out for our first ride and everyone seems to just be easily cruising along and I'm feeling like I'm struggling to keep up. I get frustrated and as soon as that goes to my head I instantly feel the power drain even more out of my legs. I won't get into it but I am a firm believer there is A LOT to be said about PMA (positive mental attitude)....and NPA for that matter. Some of you know what that means....the rest of you will have to guess :)

And on a personal note....I have added some nerd points these last few weeks by getting hooked on this www.geocaching.com It's insane I haven't heard about this before! Went out on my first hunt on Friday over lunch <3>

Purchasing memory cards is such a time consuming process... You have to search online for prices, sort through which ones are legit, visit a bunch of stores,compare prices, finally buy your memory, and then hope that the price doesn't fall in the next month or so.

I've been done in by some ridiculous price drops in the past... especially this one time when I bought a Micro SD for my R4 gaming flash card at what apparently was a steal, only to later see that it fell five bucks in a week.
