Racing has become a very important part of my life. It takes a lot of dedication and a lot of focus but results in a real sense of accomplishment and puts me in great shape. Sharing this information helps keep my mind in the game and lets you read about my experiences :)

Catching Up - Get In Gear and Lake Minnetonka Half Marathon

Well let me start out by recapping my first two races of the year. Get in Gear (10k) was WAY better than it was last year. No sideways snow and warm enough to take off the gloves :) I finished much stronger but at an overall slower pace than last year. It's going to be hard to compare races of this year to last year since my training focus is completely different. I can't "race" anything before Ironman (except Minneman of course). Everything needs to be looked at and used as a training. It's hard in some ways and nice in others.

Anyway, I ran it in 58:37, average pace 9:26 and average heart rate was 171bpm.

~~~Side note, I decided for all run races, I need to start tracking my average heart rate. I feel like the true test, at least for me, is to be able to run faster without bringing my heart rate up. Not as easy to do for triathlons but I figure run races will be my cardio testing :) ~~~
Next race was last weekend - Lake Minnetonka Half Marathon
Weather was again beautiful for running and I couldn't have been in better company. Many TNT were there including the four IronCrew members. I again treated this more like a training than a race and felt really good at the end.
Total time 2:142:26, average pace 10:28 and average heart rate was 161bpm
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am wishing I could give more detail on those races but in one hand I can't and the other hand I literally am just having trouble recalling since I haven't been able to write about the races until so much later. I do have a lot of thoughts, feelings, emotions while I'm racing and I wish there was some way to just record all of that DURING the race.
Plus life has taken quite a turn for me and because of that I'm very happy but also struggling to find my way back up from the fall. I've never been a spiritual person but I do believe things happen for a reason. Even more so now than ever before. In a certain way and at a certain time. You can have the same thing happen over and over and over again and then one day, right when it will have the most impact, that something changes ever so slightly and will forever affect the rest of your life. I think I've come to terms with what's all going on in my life but I'm not quite ready to spell it out for the world. So sorry for being all cryptic but I promise very soon you'll get the full story. Right now I'm doing what I always do when I decide I need to vent. I put on my "bad day" mix as I have so affectionately named it and let the bad, hurtful, negative feelings balloon up and out of me. (And for some reason I find I like to dump my emotion out in my blog. Hence why these damn things always get to be such a novel to read)
-Topic jump -
I have about 30 different things I could talk about but I'll narrow it to this last one for this entry. I desperately need a minimum of 30 hours in a day. With work and training and fundraising and having a life I feel like my daily things are getting further and further behind unless I want to stay up past midnight to try and catch up (and ps, getting my total mileage updated on the right side of this blog is on that list). I've been very tired lately but so far doesn't seem to be having any long term physical affects. Just THOROUGHLY enjoy sleeping past 5:30am on the rare occasion that it happens,.
-Random jump-
I had a robin decide to nest in the tree out front of my townhouse and the past couple weeks she's been very aggressive, diving at your head everytime you walk to the front door. Today the babies were old enough that they were out of the nest and attempting to fly. Hope they are doing ok flopping around somewhere around here
-Slight step back-
So much of my time has been taken up by getting ready for my big garage sale fundraiser this year. I have a garage full of stuff from multiple other people/sales that have offered to donate. Special thanks to Suzanne for all her help, donations and equipment rental! And to any of my local readers, if you have items you would like to donate to my sale (May 21-23rd), please contact me and I can arrange to pick them up. Or here's my link again for those who would just like to make a personal monetary donation. Fundraising has been extra hard this year due to the crappy economy so every little bit helps :) I'm at just under $2000 and I need to get to $5,300 by the end of June.
Well I will leave you all with that and bid you happy travels in your life until next we blog. I should write later this evening since I am running the TC 1-mile tonight but I out of all the things I need to do, I can't promise it will take the #1 spot away from going to bed.
