Racing has become a very important part of my life. It takes a lot of dedication and a lot of focus but results in a real sense of accomplishment and puts me in great shape. Sharing this information helps keep my mind in the game and lets you read about my experiences :)

Gear West Splash and Dash

Now this was an interesting event. Interesting meaning different but also fun. Gear West put this on out in Long Lake. It was not an official race, just something to come out and get in a little speed work. It was a 200yd swim – 1 mile run – few minutes pause - then repeat. The weather was a little “iffy” since there were storms to the north and south so I think that probably kept some people away. They were expecting around 10 and there were 7 of us that participated. Instead of a transition zone, we had a transition square. About 10’ x 10’ was all we needed. We got marked with a number. I got #4 which I’m sure is the lowest I will EVER see :-P

It was a mass start of all seven of us into the water, 50 yards to round the buoy, back to shore to run around the other buoy, then back into the water for another lap. After that we quickly put on our run shoes and did a ½ mile out and back. Once everyone was in, we did that process one more time. Surprisingly my second time through was faster. First time through let’s just say I was more than a little flustered by coming in 6th out of 7. Which is exactly what happened the second time through too.

All in all it was a fun event and they are doing the same thing again on Tues Aug 11th. If my hectic schedule allows, I will definitely be going again. Below are the results:
