Racing has become a very important part of my life. It takes a lot of dedication and a lot of focus but results in a real sense of accomplishment and puts me in great shape. Sharing this information helps keep my mind in the game and lets you read about my experiences :)

Minneman Triathlon

Just a quick update as I am desperately wanting to go to bed :)

Minneman Tri has been my second focus of the summer. Besides Ironman, Minneman is the only other one I really care about. It was the very first triathlon I've ever done and it's become my "benchmark" to see how I'm doing each year. It's a fast, flat course. 1/3mi swim, 13 mi bike, 3 mi run. The weather was perfect and so were the spectators. I ran into a few TNT friends and Mark was there with his dog Sugar to cheer me on.
I suppose my swim stats are a little skewed since this year I opted to use my wetsuit which is something I haven't done in years past. Besides getting a little off course at one point, the swim went very well and I came out of the water near the front of my wave.

The bike started hard but I felt like I was moving along pretty well. What was extra nice is that it was cloudy and we even got a few sprinkles of cool rain on the course. I didn't get passed by more than a handful of people (which is unusual for me). I was REALLY trying hard not to look at who was passing me but those I did peak at were not in my age category :-P I ended up placing overall worst in the bike, keeping nearly the same pace I did last year.

The run start was seriously difficult but I tried to just numb my body and brain and keep my feet moving. At one point I even noticed that the "tired" feeling wasn't my heart rate or my breathing, it was just my legs. So I tried to "suck it up" and keep moving. Came across the finish line strong and even got extra recognition from the announcer. I guess Jerry remembered that I work for Miracles of Mitch and said there's a girl that's "well connected". I assume that means Tony and my new job with USAT.

(PS this is late in day 2 of trying to complete this post. (10:38pm so let's see if I make it this time...lol)

So if you want my stats, check out here

I was very happy to have been a little more than 2 minutes faster than last year (still landing in 5th place) but unhappy that the ONLY thing that got a little slower was my bike time. Ugh....this damn bike is going to be the death of me! I had to do a late 2 hour indoor spin tonight to make up for missing my long ride because of the race and 4th of July festivities. It's ridiculous, I honestly can't get moving faster and I can't get my heart rate up for any period of time. I don't have a cycle computer so I don't have stats from my indoor spins but with doing 3 8:30 hard efforts, 6:30 recovery in between. My legs HURT and I was sweating to no end but my heart rate was only maxing at 171. I know I have a bad attitude about my bike and I can whine and crab with the best of them but why can't I get to be more damn efficient of a rider!?!?!

Oh and I can't remember if I mentioned this but I switched to the TriFuel schedule for the final 12 weeks. It's more of a commitment but it making me do more and therefore making me feel better. Next tri is the Chisago Half Iron. I'll have the Torchlight 5K before that as well.
zzzzzzzzzz......nighty night
